In The Beginning Was The Word

My writing journey began when I received my first “real deal” journal in middle school; prior to pen and paper my musings were expressed via Windows 98 Microsoft Word. I vividly remember being the first within my household to wake up, excited to plant myself in front of the computer and escape to my own world of pre-teen literature. The moment I was encouraged to convey my emotions in my new journal, there was no turning back from that point forward—writing immediately became my healthy getaway. There’s something to be said about the raw innocence that accompanies bleeding before a diary or [computer] keyboard. You learn a great deal about yourself when you are able to go back through the months or even years and feel certain emotions and rethink specific thoughts again; I call it daydreaming in reverse.

I urge others to put away mindless distractions and enter the world of soul-searching compositions. Explore the art and cherish the journey! Quite often our inner beauty manifests itself through genuine vulnerability, so don’t ever shy away from that, no matter how foreign or intimidating it may seem at first. You never know whose soul you are helping to heal by way of your very own life experiences, courageously written out for the world to either misinterpret or hold dear…even if it’s just for an audience of one.
